NATURES PARADISE

Pelee Island

MAY 27 - 29  ~ 3 Days

DAY 1: Following our departure from Barrie we will travel to Kingsville which is located in Essex County on the northern shore of Lake Erie and is one of Canada’s most southerly located towns, rich with Victorian Heritage. Here we will visit the fascinating Canadian Museum of Transportation and Heritage Village. The museum has one of the finest collections of antique, vintage and historical displays of modes of transport. Everything from bicycles, motorcycles, to cars, trucks, military vehicles and rail. Enjoy lunch in the 50’s era diner and then tour Heritage Village where you will find an assortment of buildings and displays dating back to the 1840’s. Late afternoon finds us traveling a short distance to Leamington. Imagine a place where rare plants and species thrive, where the land is so rich it produces the most diverse range of crops in Canada, a place where naturalists flock to witness the impressive migration of birds and butterflies, a place where breathtaking sunsets, secluded beaches, after supper sails and friendly faces are a way of life. That’s the place we’ll spend the next few days. Here we will check into our days inn hotel for our two night stay. Tonight we will enjoy a delicious dinner followed by a comedy presentation A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Farm. The play which is set in a rural setting is the story of two city slickers getting into organic farming only to find out the Big City wants the land for a landfill.

DAY 2: Following breakfast we will travel a short distance to board the ferry to Pelee Island, which is Canada’s most southern piece of land. On the Island we will be met by our step on guide and board the local bus for a tour of the island rich in history, interesting sites and the beaches of Lake Erie. Included in the tour is a visit to the Pelee Island Winery, the largest estate winery in Canada with over 600 acres of grapes. We’ll have a stop at the Wine Pavilion for a tour and tasting plus lunch included in your tour cost. Returning from the island we will return to our hotel to relax and refresh before dinner. The rest of the evening is on your own.

DAY 3: Following breakfast we check out of our hotel and board the coach for a short trip to Point Pelee National Park, a 10-kilometre sandspit with its southern point equal in latitude to the northern border of California, contains one of Canada's smallest but most unusual national parks. Stroll the trail or take the shuttle which leaves the Visitor Centre and travels 2 km (a 7 minute ride) to the Tip’s Outdoor Exhibit, which highlights the migration phenomenon. Walk to the most southern tip of mainland Canada and take your picture amongst a wondrous place where spring bird and fall monarch, dragonfly and bird migrations evolve. Following our visit to the Park we will board the coach and travel to Ruthven where we will visit Colasantis Tropical Gardens. A tropical wonderland of exotic birds and gardens, domestic and miniature animals, flowers and plants. While at the Gardens we will enjoy our group lunch in the restaurant.
